Why It Works :

Craniosacral Therapy has been found to support nervous system regulation through the bodies in-built mechanisms to detect safety or danger, much of which occurs via the unconscious, within the autonomic nervous system. During states of safety, the body shifts to heal, during threat, the body moves into protection and defense mode.

Changing Weather - Calm Inner World

The Blessing of Impermanence

The systems governing this world are rapidly changing. In this time of transition, inner stability is not a luxury, it’s essential.

A well-regulated nervous system is the best ally to help navigate these times.

Life is full of transitions. We shift from stillness to movement and back again continuously.

Life is certainly dynamic.

Whilst familiarity is comfortable, the tides turn; the systems we once knew, both globally and within the cells of our bodies, are in motion.

Sensitivity: Why Vulnerability is a Strength

Sensitivity is often framed as a weakness. Yet, is sensitivity really weak? Or is this approach simply a distraction from feelings that are uncomfortable? Is this really about resistance to connection, to authenticity, to the truth of what’s actually going on?

Man with Anxiety

Shifting Out of Anxiety

Anxiety has a pattern. If it continues for long enough it can cause the body and mind to experience a degree of overwhelm.

For some it may not be an issue and for others it may be rather challenging.

Anxiety affects the mind and body in a number of ways, causing dysregulation of the nervous system. The body may move into protection mode ensuring survival and the negotiation of any perceived threats.

During an experience of anxiety we generally have an increased heart rate, the diaphragm is likely to contract, the breath tends to quicken and the brain shifts to only the essential actions that sustain immediate survival needs. Our capacity for memory is reduced, social engagement and language skills are minimised. We may misinterpret the facial expressions of those around us as being unfriendly.

Responding to Anxiety with Self Care

Healthy Ways to Respond to Anxiety

The level of stress & anxiety we encounter play a significant role in the way we experience emotions and psychological (mental) states.

What we do with stress is where much of the magic is. When stress happens for a short period of time, the body isn’t negatively impacted. Yet, over a long period of time, stress can where down the immune system.

Kidney Health from A Craniosacral Persepctive

Returning to Health

Earlier this year I genuinely thought I was dying.

I went to hospital and discovered a kidney stone was the cause of intense pain.

I’m grateful that mainstream medicine helped detect the issue.

Yet, when it came to my nervous system and the shock I was in, it didn’t recognise how pivotal a role the nervous system and what role a sense of safety plays in health.

I was steered towards surgery and repeatedly presented the worst case scenario as if it was the only option.

I questioned this perspective.

Thanks to my training in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy I knew it was not the only path.

Brains Negativity Bias - Craniosacral Therapy

The Brain’s Negative Bias

The Brain’s Negative Bias

Did you know, the brain has a negative bias?

Ever noticed how if one person says something negative about us, it can end up being the thing we focus on, rather than those numerous compliments we received throughout the day?

Dr. Steve Porgess who wrote the book Polyvagal Theory coined the term neuroception.

Neuroception is the brain’s way of scanning our environment for safety.

Body Intelligence - Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy

The Intelligence of Your Body

Life is intelligent by its very nature.

Every cell is indeed conscious. The entire body is being breathed by a power greater than the mind alone can fathom.

So when my mind begins to dominate the natural flow and expression of life, its possible to lose touch with the inclinations of nature’s intelligence.

In such instances I may feel disconnected from my body and its health.

Why?

What causes a disconnection from health and the quantum field that informs everything?

Any mindset that assumes everything that is worthwhile can only be achieved through the self, and that, whatsoever is worthwhile can only be perceived by the mind. Through making things happen. Through doing.

Such a mindset can easily lead to exhaustion and over-doing, with less space for being moved by life itself.

When I directly relate with the intelligence of life, I listen deeply to the body and to nature’s intelligence.

The fascinating revelation is that when I slow down, when I do nothing properly, as in sitting still and simply being, my actions are reflected in my quality of presence. I become  far more effective. My psychology and physiology move into symmetry and health.

The key to health is presence. Every therapy and spiritual practice returns us back to the body which only resides in present time.
