The Blessing of Impermanence

The systems governing this world are rapidly changing. In this time of transition, inner stability is not a luxury, it's essential. A well-regulated nervous system is the best ally to help navigate these times. Life is full of transitions. We shift from stillness to movement and back again continuously. Life is certainly dynamic. Whilst familiarity is comfortable, the tides turn; the systems we once knew, both globally and within the cells of our bodies, are in motion.

The Blessing of Impermanence

The systems governing this world are rapidly changing. In this time of transition, inner stability is not a luxury, it’s essential. A well-regulated nervous system is the best ally to help navigate these times. Life is full of transitions. We shift from stillness to movement and back again continuously. This is the very definition of impermanence.

Life is certainly dynamic.

Whilst familiarity is comfortable, the tides turn; the systems we once knew, both globally and within the cells of our bodies, are in motion.

Our well-known stepping stones have shifted.

Lately, I’ve been listening to the voice of the late Mike Boxhall.

A Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist and author of The Empty Chair.

His words bring tears to my eyes and also make me laugh. His endearing honesty, his transparency of his shortcomings and his matter of fact simplicity are such a delight.

“The Blessing of Insecurity” is the title of a profound chapter where he shares a quote by Gautama Buddha on the truth of impermanence. Reminding us that there is nothing we need to grasp that remains.

Yet, in this lack of insecurity, Mike reveals a doorway.

Suggesting that we let go into the stream of life, where grace is revealed. This act of surrender is powerful, and available to us, the moment we find the courage to unclench our hands.

There is an undeniable lightness in letting go — an unburdening, a freedom. A spaciousness, that is priceless. A capacity to cherish the small, the simple, and the fleeting.

This moment is not a means to an end; it is life itself, enriched by our sheer presence.

Here, we can finally make peace with discomfort. We can loosen the grip of personal and global suffering, witnessing how even tragedy, loss, grief, and pain are a part of the dance of life.

We see this truth written in our own flesh and blood—in the constant, shifting nature of the body, never breathing the same breath twice.
